Does my child need Speech and Language Therapy?

My child has been referred to the NHS for Speech and Language Therapy. Can we still see you?
Yes. I recognise the frustration of long waiting lists and the importance of receiving advice quickly. I can offer advice or therapy until you receive an appointment with the NHS. Once you receive that appointment you can still choose to continue with private therapy.
An NHS Speech Therapist sees the statemented children at our school. What else can you offer?
I can offer universal advice which will make your setting more communication friendly and benefit all the children in your school. I can also support the other children you have concerns about, and give advice to staff on how best to support those children within the school environment.
Where do sessions take place?
In your child's home, or in their nursery or school — wherever they are most comfortable and most likely to engage. There is no travelling to appointments for you, and no unfamiliar clinic room for your child.
How long is a session?
Therapy sessions are approximately 45 minutes. An initial assessment usually takes longer, as it includes observation and a full discussion with you.
Do I get a written report?
You can choose an initial assessment with or without a written report. A report is useful if you want to share findings with your child's school or with other professionals.
How long will my child need therapy?
That depends entirely on your child. After the assessment we agree clear targets and a realistic timeframe together, and we review progress regularly so you always know where things stand.
Which areas do you cover?
Reading, Berkshire and the surrounding areas, including Wokingham, Bracknell, Newbury, Maidenhead and Henley‑on‑Thames. Travel is charged at 50p per mile. If you're not sure whether you're in range, please get in touch and ask.
How much experience do you have?
I have over twenty years of experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, including more than ten years working for the NHS across clinics, mainstream schools, nurseries and specialist settings.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. I hold a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy, am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and am a member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists. I hold full professional insurance and an enhanced DBS check.
